Smackdown is the second premiere weekly show of WWE after Monday Night RAW. The results of 15th January 2021 WWE Smackdown didn’t disappoint. Things are lining up for the Royal Rumble 2021 event, which will definitely impact everything leading up to WWE Wrestlemania 37.
WWE Smackdown 15th January 2021 Results: Adam Pearce is the Number One Contender
The show started with the recap of the previous week’s events, where Roman Reigns robbed Shinsuke Nakamura of the shot at being the number one contender. He forced the WWE official Adam Pearce to pin Nakamura and become the sole candidate to challenge Reigns.
After the recap, the camera zoomed in toward Roman Reigns, reading the contract for the WWE Universal Championship title match at the main event of Royal Rumble 2021. However, he didn’t look entirely happy with the stipulations, which prompted Paul Heyman to renegotiate the new terms with Adam Pearce. The new terms being a non-disqualification match between the two.
Nakmura get his Revenge against JeyUso
The opening match of the night was between JeyUso and Nakamura. However, before the match, the Samoan announced that he would be a part of the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match. Usoalso said that he would it, then go to RAW to win the WWE Title from the winner of the match between Drew McIntyre and Goldberg.
Once Nakamura entered the ring, a brawl started, soon converted into a one-on-one match between them. Cesaro was with Michael Cole and Corey Graves at the Comms table, where he also announced his spot at the Royal Rumble showdown.
Uso tried to play dirty the entire time and got caught by the referee using the tights for leverage. The distraction allowed Nakamura to win the match, not before rolling Uso for the pin.

Roman Reigns wants a Last Man Standing Match Against Adam Pearce
Paul Heyman enters the locker room where Roman Reigns and Apollo Crews already are sitting, sharing the news that Adam Pearce has agreed to a No-DQ matchup. However, Roman Reigns didn’t seem impressed and instead asked Heyman to create a clause for the Last Man Standing match at Royal Rumble 2021. Though Heyman seemed a bit concerned, Roman convinced him that he would sign the contract in the ring later. After that, Reigns goes back to chatting with Crews to end the segment.
Trouble in Paradise Between Rey Mysterio and his Son Dominik
Rey Mysterio wasn’t able to win the number one contender gauntlet match. This week he had a match against King Baron Corbin with his son Dominik. All looked even until Dominik decided to Dominik step to Corbin at ringside and stormed the ring. Though Rey immediately stopped his son and got him to leave the ring, it wasn’t until Corbin took advantage of the distraction, and nailed Rey with End of Days for the win.
Winner: King Baron Corbin
Cesaro with a Career-Defining Victory
We go back to the ring and get ready for the match between Daniel Bryan and Cesaro. Both superstars traded blows left and right. The finishing moves were applied right after another, but in the end, it was Cesaro who prevailed with the neutralizer with the career-defining victory over the Dragon Daniel Bryan. The loss could dim Bryan’s momentum as he is one of the favorites to win the Royal Rumble match. Moreover, it is speculated that he could be the one to end Roman Reigns’ reign of terror in Smackdown.
The Last Man Standing Match Between Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens
The WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman, and JeyUso are the first to enter the ring for the contract signing ceremony at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, 2021. Adam Pearce then nervously enters the ring and Reigns tells him to have a seat.
Pearce is the last one to sign the contract after which he smiles and tells the champ that he has waited all night for Reigns to do that. While Roman looked confused, Pearce left the ring and started limping, seemingly injuring his knee. He told Reigns that if the doctors do not medically clear up to fight for the title, he has the right to pick a suitable replacement for him.
Right then, Kevin Owens’s music starts to play and he comes out, showing that was Pearce’s plan all along. Owens signs the contract as Pearce holds it for him while Reigns looked clearly dejected.
So, it is official now! Kevin Owens will get another shot at the WWE Universal title against Roman Reigns at the main event of Royal Rumble 2021. The match will have colossal implications for WWE Wrestlemania 37 event at the Raymond James’ Stadium on 28th March 2021.
We are now two weeks away from the Royal Rumble 2021 Pay Per View, and things are becoming interesting for fans and all WWE Superstars. Though this WWE Smackdown episode didn’t give much away, the line-up for the Royal Rumble match is starting to fill up which could impact the match card at Wrestlemania 37.
